BIOMAT is also active in standardisation through partner UNE supported by ITG. CEN and CENELEC, the European Standards Organizations, have just published CWA 50751:2024 ‘Methodology for the data-driven management of production processes’.
The document proposes a step-by-step methodology that allows for improving the knowledge of processes, especially in the field of the circular economy, facilitating their implementation and optimisation through the intensive use of gathered data.
Here are the main expected benefits of this methodology for the relevant companies:
The principles of this methodology have been developed through BIOMAT to support the implementation of new processes on the pilot lines that are providing the services of the Open Innovation Test Bed for the production of nano-enabled bio-based cellular materials. Including the info in a new standard allows the knowledge generated in research and innovation activities receiving public funds to be easily accessible by the industry in Europe and beyond, being used in different applications and sectors.
In this way, BIOMAT complies with the principles of knowledge valorisation, enabling the project results to benefit European society.
CWA stands for ‘CEN-CENELEC Workshop Agreement’, and it is a standardisation document called “of reduced consensus”, elaborated and approved by a group of experts, which can be developed in a short time and published by CEN and CENELEC. These kinds of documents are specially designed to contain new knowledge arising from research and innovation activities, to be further used as a first step for a full standard (EN or ISO, for instance).
